Aaliyah Dana Haaughton gained fame after releasing the album she dubbed Age Ain't Nothing But A Number in the year 1994. The album, launched when she was only 15 years old was certified Gold. R. Kelly was a major influence on this collaboration which brought her into the limelight. In 1996 Jermaine and Timbaland came out with Aaliyah's sophomore album One In A Million. The album contained the single If Your Girls Only Knew the top-selling single. Following the release of this work Aaliyah won international acclaim as an R&B performer. She appeared alongside the legendary martial artist Jet Li in the romantic-action movie Romeo Must Die. Joel Silver, the film producer, saw her at an awards show and suggested the role.
